Ajdovščina, Slovenia – February 15, 2024 – The picturesque town of Ajdovščina became the focal point for advancing mental health in sports as Sport Club Endorfin hosted a pivotal event on 15th of February 2024 in the framework of the initiative “#SMS-Strong Mind for Success.” The project, dedicated to nurturing the mental well-being of young athletes, included the valuable participation of Uroš Perko, esteemed author of “Mental Disorders in Sport,” who led an enlightening lecture on the critical subject.
In a collaborative effort with ND Primorje Ajdovščina, a local football club, the workshop welcomed 30 participants, delving deep into the mental health challenges faced by athletes. The session illuminated the intricate causes and consequences of mental challenges in the sporting realm, often tracing back to familial ties, childhood experiences, and the pressures exerted by stakeholders in sports.
The gathering underscored the necessity of integrating additional resources and practices into sports organizations to foster a supportive environment conducive to mental health. By addressing the complexities of mental health in athletes and advocating for enhanced training processes, the “#SMS-Strong Mind for Success” project marks a significant step towards holistic athlete development in Slovenia.
#SMS – Strong Mind for Success is an initiative that aims to build capacity in sport organizations nowadays in the field of mental care awareness and care towards youth athletes. The initiative will deliver innovative education on how mental health can contribute for the successful development of young football players in Bulgaria, Italy and Slovenia.
